NEONATOLOGY
Neonatology is a branch of pediatrics that focuses on the medical care of newborn infants, especially the sick or premature. Neonatologists are pediatricians who have received additional training and experience in the care of newborns. They work in neonatal intensive care units (NICUs), which are specially equipped units in hospitals that provide care for critically ill or premature babies.
What do neonatologists do?
Neonatologists diagnose and treat a wide range of conditions in newborns, including:
Prematurity (being born too early)
Low birth weight
Breathing problems
Infections
Birth defects
Heart problems
Neurological problems
They also provide routine care for healthy newborns, such as checking their vital signs, feeding them, and monitoring their growth and development and immunization
