Paediatric Bronchoscopy
Pediatric bronchoscopy is a medical procedure that involves using a thin, flexible tube with a camera at the end (bronchoscope) to examine the inside of a child's airways. It's like looking through a tiny telescope into the lungs!
Why is it done?
Doctors use pediatric bronchoscopy to:
Diagnose lung problems: This might include chronic coughing, wheezing, difficulty breathing, or recurrent pneumonia.
Remove foreign objects: If a child has inhaled a toy, bead, or other object, bronchoscopy can be used to remove it.
Take tissue samples: A small sample of tissue (biopsy) can be taken during bronchoscopy to help diagnose lung conditions.
Treat certain lung conditions: For example, bronchoscopy can be used to open up narrowed airways or remove mucus plugs.
